PostSubject: New Member from Sutherland Shire in Sydney   Wed Jan 15 2014, 18:39

Hi Guys,

I signed-up/registered with the club sometime in September last year but I got prompted to post an introduction and update my profile after I received a couple of emails about upcoming rides Wink

So here I am....

My name is Jalal and I am from the Sutherland Shire area in Sydney, so you can tell that the National Park route was the first one I embarked on soon after getting my Ls a year ago.

I am on my Ps at the moment until March which is when I will get my fulls Wink

My current ride which was the one I chose as my first bike is the Suzuki GS500F (2010 model) which has been an awesome bike.

I haven't done much long distance riding apart from a trip to Phillip Island and back to Sydney on my GS and it has been an awesome experience indeed.

Apart from that I try and sneak-off from the wife on some weekends, provided I accumulate enough brownie points during the week to do that Smile

Anyway, I look forward to be an active member of your forum and hopefully meet some of you on upcoming rides.

P.S. If any of you is local to me and would like to head out somewhere for a ride, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Cheers.

Welcome to the fray, Jalal! You've joined at a great time - middle of summer and plenty of events on (almost every weekend at the moment!). Look forward to riding with you sometime soon.

Thanks for the welcomes Charlie and Justin.

I won't be able to make it to the Australia Day meet-up, as I have a friend's wedding to go to the day before and am sure it will be a big night for me Wink

I will however try to aim for the other meet-ups.

Welcome. There are many other rides to join in on. A lot of them are down your way also (Huskisson, Kangaroo Valley, Robertson Pie Shop, the 5 Islands Brewery at Wollongong etc. If you could see yourself in joining us the overnighter at Neville, you'd have a great time.

If you have questions about riding etc, just ask. There are many here who will be happy to help.

Thanks Ed,

I was checking out the Sunday ride to the Warragamba Dam which I could combine with the National Park leg on the way back home from Picton. I have pencilled this one in but just have to check if the wife has any plans this weekend.

The only questions I have are related to group riding, as the only time I have ridden as part of a group was to the MotoGP to Phillip Island and that didn't work well (not what I expected anyway), so at the end I ended-up riding solo for the 2nd half of the trip and all the way to Sydney on the way back.

I will read-up on the "Safe Group Riding" tips posted here and if there are any questions, I will be sure to ask. Thanks

With NSW riders group rides, and certainly if I am with the group that day, there is a ride leader, a tail ender charlie (TEC) and subject to numbers, corner markers. The TEC looks after the slower riders. The TEC should never pass the previous person without good reason. The corner markers will stop at a safe place to indicate whether you are turning left or right.

Some other helpful hints can be found at this link:

http://www.nswriders.org/t1344-ride-guidelines-to-make-your-group-ride-a-safe-and-enjoyable-one

Something else that is very important when you ride with a group you are unfamiliar with is to ride to your own ability ie do not attempt to keep up with faster riders if you are uncomfortable doing so. As TEC, if I have to ride at a learners pace for any ride, then I am ok with that. Your safety and that of the group is what is important. Be sure to identify yourself to the ride leader and the TEC. Always wise to know were the ride is going and the route etc. I use a SPOT GEN 3 tracker. Via a link I will post prior to the ride on that particular ride thread, anyone with a suitable phone can use that link to find out where I am. Hopefully, the group will be near lol unless I am riding home.

Be sure to come say hello on Sunday. I'm the balding guy on the black Yamaha Vstar and I'll introduce you around.

Thanks Bruce, that's exactly what am looking for in a group ride, so I look forward to meeting you guys.

I just got the "all OK" for this Sunday, so I will go the trip thread and put my name up.
