Synex 3000 is a high performance semi synthetic suitable for higher revving sports bikes while Premium Gold is a mineral suitable for general usage and/or commuter bikes.

Hi RossT, another Gulf Western Oil convert (to be), what OIL do you recommend for Yamaha FZ6R (same engine/make with XJ6)? The recommended Engine oil is Yamalube with type SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, 10W-50, 15W-40, 20W-40 or 20W-50. The last one I use is 10W-40.

PostSubject: Re: Purchasing Oil from Gulf Western Oil   Fri Jan 31 2014, 10:00

Hi Ross,

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and having just done oil changes on many farm bikes and vehicles, decided to seek your advice regarding my quest for the holy grail of "one oil for everything".

I have a number of farm bikes - DRZ400, CRF230 a TRX300 honda quad and a number of kids motorbikes as well. I also have an old Suzuki Sierra ute that is used for spraying work.

My question is - rather than having different oils/grades for each of the different machines, would it be possible to use the Protector Ultra for EVERYTHING? Most of the bikes are air cooled, and with the current heat wave we are experiencing in the Central West of NSW, I worry about them suffering whilst idling about spraying and moving stock. I am more concerned about the +35 degree heat performance than the potential 5 degree winter start-ups. The shed-conscious side of me is also a little "over" having half a dozen different oil containers cluttering up my work area.

Like a lot of others on this thread, I try and use the oil grades recommended by the manufacturers in the workshop manuals, but if it is possible (even advantageous) to use your Protecta Ultra, my long-term quest will be at an end. The most common oil recommended is a 10W-40, but the friction modifying agents have always made me baulk when searching for the "one".

Thanks for any help you can offer.

PS (edit) Forgot to mention that using an Australian blended product is also a top priority. I get a strange, bitter-sweet unpatriotic feeling every time I pour Motul full synthetic into any of my machines. I know they need the fresh oil, but it galls me to give money to the Frogs...

Stuart,

you are actually sending your money to Singapore - and paying a ridiculous margin for a product which is fine but nothing special.

Yes I would recommend Protecta Ultra for the lot. I use it in every four stroke on my farm, road bikes, quads, trail bikes, ride ons, firefighters etc. Just don't use it in any late model Euro engines with exhaust particulate filters on them - or heavy diesels.

Whereabouts are you in the central west?

Pleasure Pete. I don't think we do anything special. It's just that the competitors no longer believe in customer service unless you spend big $$$$ with them.

I'm sure you will be just as pleased with the product's performance.

Got my 20litres - I notice there is a plug at the bottom of the pail = presumably to install a tap? Anyone done this or just pouring into a smaller container from the top opening?

I bought a tap from the shops and installed it. Same one for a home brew kit  drunken
Just take a bit of care when you cut the plastic from behind the lug.

I did look into getting the 20 litres but then thought what to do with the used oil so decided to get 2 boxes of 5 litres which holds 6 in each boxes so i can service the bike and car when one box is filled with used oil its taken to the tip with other bit and pieces.
And the home delivery is great considering when ordering 3-4 boxes of different stuff like engine oil, brake fluid, gear box, power steering fluid, Automatic transmission fluid. Its getting to a stage where i am servicing my parents car as well as i can get the oil cheaper than auto parts store and aussie made.

This is excellent.
Always skimp on the good oils in my little runabout car to save money.
Now I can service bike and both cars with good oils and an excellent cost.

Great.

Hi Ross and others,

I've got a couple of 04 R1's, one trackbike, one roadbike. Pretty interested in trying your oil for my bikes. Which do you think would be the go?

Thanks in advance,

Nath

I might need to give the guys a call and have a chat about oil for my Virago, the selection at SCA isn't overwhelming, and to be honest I'm not even sure what the best oil for me would be.
