Hello everyone,

As of the 24/07/2009, 1:50pm, Thornleigh RTA, I have got my Learner licence (still warm!!)

My name is Kenny, novice to the motorbike world. My colleague Kris introduced me to this wonderful place (so, hi Kris, here I am).

I haven't got myself a bike yet, but I am thinking to get a Kawasaki 250R.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Well, my budget is around $7k, and prefer the sporty look, something easy to maintain, fun to ride. And I am thinking to upgrade the bike after 1~1.5 years (so, trying not to spend too much money on the first one).
All suggestions are welcome.

I've considered CB400, sadly, it is more than my budget and still prefer a sporty look bike. (Thanks Kris).

I know of a suzuki gs500f, 2007 model in mint condition, very low ks, sporty look, learner legal. A bike that you'll keep a lot longer than any 250. Price don't know, but I could let you know if you are interested.

Hey Kenny, welcome to the site.

The new ninja 250's are a little slower than most other sports 250's but god they look sexy in white bounce , actually they look pretty good in any colour, and have a good resale value. They also have a comfortable seating position I am told.

Go the ninja cheers

Hi Kenny and welcome to NSW riders. I got back into bikes (after many years away) with a Kawasaki GPX250 and for the 18 months I had it, it was a fabulous machine that didn't miss a beat - snapped clutch cable only problem I had in 13,000km of riding. When I sold it I dropped only $300 from 2nd hand purchase price so good value in terms of resale if you buy right.

The new Ninjas look sensational and can only be an inprovement on the older Kwaka 250s. My only caution would be to make sure you do not want to do too much passenger carrying or hilly stuff cos they tend to lack in the grunt department in those conditions in particular. You will probably find, especially if you come out on day rides with a group like ours, that it will not be too long till you want to upgrade to something with a bit more in the horsepower department so not a bad idea to buy with that in mind. But for a first bike on a limited budget you can't go too wrong I reckon. They are not Australia's number one selling bike for no reason!

what style of riding will you be doing most of the time?? that will help your decision..
also are you tall, short? or anything like that??

it will depend on what you feel comfortable riding

wow..so many replies!! AND that white ninja is HOT!!

Thank you all..and the "Kenny" image.

Im 1.8m, 73kg, and look out for a daily use bike (home to office).
I understand ninja is not a fast sports bike, but its alright, because I want to improve my skills first, then talk about speed (wait until I move up to 600cc level).

I don't think I will/allowed to take any passenger at this stage, therefore, should be alright I guess.

p.s. I thought everyone should be out and having a beer in their hand~? guess I am wrong. Shocked
